All characters start with one basic weapon and one basic suit of armor. Most characters can only benefit from one magic weapon (two if dual wielding), one suit of magic armor (plus a magic shield), and one accessory at a time.

GMs should award treasure as they feel appropriate. Generally the GM should award treasure

  • When a solo or elite monster is defeated.
  • When a quest is completed.
  • When the characters find a secret vault.
  • When the characters overcome a particularly difficult encounter.

The GM can also award gil at the end of an encounter equal to 1d20 x the level of the encounter. A magic item has a price equal to 100 x its level.
